The assembly manual for the QRPGuys Multi Z Tuner dated 01/28/2018 has some really confusing parts.

  • For the LED, it says «The short lead is "negative" and goes towards the right side of the chassis. The long lead to the left pad.» If it weren't for the image with "SHORT LEAD HERE", then it would be hopeless: what's left and what's right? The chassis can be rotated in any direction.
  • For L1, they're not explicit about directionality mattering. I had to rewind mine.
  • For L1, it says "Install the toroid flush with the backside of the board." However, all the images show it flush with the top of the board (which is how they refer to that surface in the following instruction about the BNC connectors. They also say the nylon screw comes in from "the bottom"—which is how I interpret "backside"—and not the top).
  • The two versions of the Polyvaricon installation for the two different versions of the kit are a mess. Really only one of the instructions needs to be modified, but instead several parts are repeated.
  • For the polyvaricon instructions, it's not clear what "adjust for minimum engagement (lowest value)" should be.
  • The instructions don't say you should screw in the polyvaricons with the small screws before soldering it in, but that would seem to be the smart thing to do.
