East Bugs are more commonly refered to as house centipedes. At Brandeis University, the name "East Bugs" arose to refer to them due to the fact that they are especially prevalent in East Quad, especially on the lower floors.
East Bugs feed on other insects, such as cockroaches, and presumably even ants, both of which are also common pests in East Quad. Despite the beneficial nature of this critter—which is mostly harmless to humans&mdash, it is feared and often brutally murdered because of its outward appearance, showing just how much even open-minded college students can judge based on outward appearance.
